Last week, the smart phone maker Palm introduced a new operating system and a new smart phone to run it to rival Apple and other power companies. The system is called WebOS, and Palm has been working on it since 2002 but has had many glitches and problems with it. They feel that they have effectively snubbed the problems and the system is ready to hit the market. To run the system Palm has created the smart phone called the Palm Pre. The Pre is very similar looking to the iPhone but addresses some of the criticisms that the touch iPhone has encountered. The Pre offers a slide-out keyboard that makes typing a little easier which fixes some of the problems of typing on a touch screen. The next benefit of the Pre that the iPhone doesn’t offer is that it has a removable battery. The Pre also features a 3.1 inch screen, EvDO, 8 gigs of storage, Wi-Fi, a 3 mega-pixel camera, and Bluetooth. The Pre also released another slick phone called Touchstone, a Bluetooth and wireless charging device that looks like a hockey puck, but half the size. Palm will be offering its services exclusively through Sprint.
With all the advances in technology today I expect new releases of phones like this very often, and expect them to get better and better. It seems that they offer just about everything on cell phones today, but somehow they tend to do nothing but improve. I look forward to seeing this phone and to see if it gets the craze the iPhone received.
